Stones for Sticks, Bricks, and the Good News

Many, if not the majority of us, have been impacted in some way by this dismal economic situation. There’s no doubt that a significant amount of uncertainty fills the air, especially relating to things like our retirement savings, real estate investments, job status, etc. For those of us born post Great Depression, we simply haven’t seen days like these before. This reality has been communicated to me over the last several months through many conversations I’ve had with various donors and potential donors. I have heard it stated several times: “this economic situation is really hurting my family; it’s just not a good time for me to give.” I can understand and empathize.

Though economic hardship exists, let us be reminded that our lives, futures, and even our savings accounts are in the hands of Almighty God. In fact, they are His already! One particular Scripture verse that has meant much to me recently is 2 Timothy 3:13, which states “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.” It is comforting to know that Christ will prove His faithfulness in and through us (despite our doubts), if we are His. I am reminded of God’s faithfulness to David in the Old Testament. Approaching Goliath with only a slingshot and a few stones had to seem daunting, and since David was human I am sure he had his doubts. Not only did God’s faithfulness through David (a rather ordinary man) prevail, but it only took one single stone to down the giant and forever change a nation!

In light of David’s story and the various expansion needs present throughout our network, we at NICS have recently launched a new donor program in response to the seeming financial limitations of many caused by this present economy. This new effort is called 1Stone-Common People Making Impact. We are asking the Lord to provide this ministry with an army of 1Stone donors, who can give monthly amounts (small stones) of $10, $20, $50, etc. in an effort to help meet expansion needs of NICS/Oasis around the world. Our ultimate goal with this campaign is that every “friend of NICS” would be willing to participate at some level, for it is the participation of many that will make huge impacts.

As you well know, ministry needs in churches and mission agencies remain dependent on our faithfulness in giving. In large part to the ongoing generosity of others in the past, NICS has grown from one small school in Uijongbu, South Korea, in 1983 to a thriving network of 20 schools in 16 countries. Over 4,300 children in NICS/Oasis classrooms this past year were exposed to the Good News! God has certainly proven His faithfulness throughout the history of this ministry. Therefore, we have every reason to trust Him with our future.
